Polaroid Series - 3. Battersea to Oval, London
Richard is fascinated with using Polaroid film with its one off unique image making capability coupled with the distinctive nostalgic aesthetic. He aims to capture images from a variety of location around the UK looking primarily at the contemporary urban built environment and redevelopment contrasting with decay and the industrial past.
Using his instinctive eye for composition he uses the Polaroid camera to capture various scenes from location views or scene setters, more graphic views and details of objects he finds of interest.
This series of images was taken on a sunny but cold Saturday 30th January 2010. Richard took the train the short distance from Victoria Railway Station to Battersea Park Station just across the River Thames.
He then set out on foot passing the iconic but derelict Battersea Power Station, the well known Battersea Dogs Home and then passed through a quiet industrial estate round to a river walk where house boats were moored.
There is a great divide between the old industrial past and the new designer flats which are creeping down the rivers edge from Vauxhall.
From Vauxhall Bus and Railway Station he headed toward Oval home to the cricket ground and the well known gasometers behind. These structures are quite striking and very geometric.
